Current Role
Greetings from Maine! My name is Sam and I am the Laboratory/Pharmacy Supervisor at MVMC, as well as the Inventory Supervisor. I've been in practice at MVMC for just about 7 years, starting as an ICU LVT and moving upwards/onwards into technician management, then to starting our lab/pharmacy department and now to managing our entire inventory (2k+ SKU's) as well as the department I started!
My day to day job at MVMC includes checking our entire hospital stock, ordering all said items, processing open PO’s, unpacking/putting away stock, controlled drug protocols/audits, Lab/Pharma protocols/audits, managing lab staff/scheduling, fixing/maintaining lab equipment, end of month audit’s, dealing with all our vendors/researching new products/equipment, covering lab hours, etc. I have a lot of skills from hopping between management gigs here, so I often help with hospital protocols, complaints, staff meetings, etc. Honestly, there is too much to do to even list here!
Favorite Vetcove Tip
The best thing about VetCove, for me, is the ability to check prices on my major vendors quickly. This allows me to check prices on the fly, let DVM's know if desired items are in stock/drop ship/alternate warehouse, etc.
Favorite Veterinary Life Hack
One of my favorite hacks, is to use a ladle to catch urine. It is so helpful on female dogs, when a free catch is needed!
Reasons I love working in the veterinary field
I love working in this field because I love a challenge. Some days I miss being in the trenches, manning a full ICU on a crazy Saturday, but I really enjoy the technical aspect of ordering- it's challenging and ever changing. It is like a puzzle on most days- one I am intent upon solving.
